In "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss, there's a spread about "the waiting place." He makes it seem like a torturous inconvenience to have to wait for something. A blocker on your fabulous adventure.

But kids (and adults) don't need encouragement to have unrealistic aspirations. We do that automatically. What we need is encouragement in patience, in waiting, in the Hail Mary fail.

Louis CK said to his (fake/actress) daughter: “I’m bored’ is a useless thing to say. I mean, you live in a great, big, vast world that you’ve seen none percent of. Even the inside of your own mind is endless; it goes on forever, inwardly, do you understand? The fact that you’re alive is amazing, so you don’t get to say ‘I’m bored.”

He's smart as fuck.

Brain Games

Brain games are little games you can play in your head when you're waiting or bored. You don't need stuff. You don't need your phone. You don't need another person. You don't even need your eyes open.

Brain Game: Alone on Earth

Alone on Earth is a hypothetical scenario where you are alone on Earth and you can do whatever you want with the rest of your life.

What would you wear?

How would you spend your time?

What would you eat?

Would you be creative?

Would you write anything?

Would you learn anything new?

Would you exercise?

Fun Report

I play this game with myself frequently. I never come up with the same answer twice, and I do this intentionally. I try to take a different perspective every time.

For example, in one alone-life I'd learn cloning to make myself a baby/friend. I'd learn biology and break into a science lab to do experiments.

In another, I believe in aliens and I try to preserve as much information as I can about Earth and history, for the aliens to find when they discover Earth. I'd study conservation. Chisel it in stone? Seal paper in plastic bags? I'd have all my time to figure it out.

In a third, I go full-hedonist and sample all the delights there were left to be had.

In all of these scenarios, I am wearing pijamas. Fuck any clothes that don't offer optimum comfort.

The inside of your own mind is endless; it goes on forever!!

You, as an individual, are not "the system."

You can be selective. Have favorites. It's not mean. It's fun!

It's practice in feeling your feelings. It makes life richer - for free!

Pick a favorites:

Color

Song

Monster on the poster at the pediatrician's office

Button on the washing machine

Motorcycle in the row of parked motorcycles

Fairy tale

Ice cream

Number

Flower in the wallpaper design

Smell that is not perfume/flower/soap

Time of day

Kind of paper

Painting in the museum

War in history

Werner Herzog quote

Footballer

Spoon

Trousers in your clothing collection

Etc*∞

Practice

Decision fatigue can be mitgated by practicing on things where it doesn't matter.

I don't know if that's true, but I said it anyway.

You'll learn to feel your feelings.

You'll learn that NOTHING matters.

And you'll have MORE FUN!!

Brain Game: Homeless as Fun

"Madness" as rational

Maybe being homeless is awesome

Ari Matti gets it.

Your browser does not support the video tag.

Lots of comedians have made this joke, but Ari's is the funniest.

Is it really a joke?

It's a flawless economic strategy:

Zero overhead costs

Zero future anxiety

100% immediate return on investment

It's a state of pure, unadultrated "now". Subtract until nothing is left but consciousness.

They've opted out of the pain-industrial complex. Just sit there, high, perfectly happy. Nothing to lose.

The universe conspires to give him exactly what he wants, at the cost of literally everything else. Victory.

Following a different set of rules that reveal the absurdity of everyone else's "normal" rules.

Marie Kondo would lose her mind. Everything in their life sparks joy.

Skip to the end-game bonus track - and stay there forever.

A radical version of Diogenes living in a barrel. Genuine contentment without performance art.

A marathon runner who sits down after kilometer 3. They're already there.

The absurdity isn't their choice. The world calls it broken, but it works according to their logic.

Winning at applied philosophy

Ultimate minimalism

Nihilism to the max

It's bascially the Christian ideal

Absurdist kings

Anarchists in fact

Meditation masters

Hedonist maxxers

The height of capitalism

Also communists somehow

Luddites

etc ∞

Can we genuinely look up to them?

Saying we have nothing to learn from them lets us off the hook. They're simply broken in a way that we're not...

But it's not true. They understand something we don't. How dare someone try to "help". What an insult.

Honor lives outside of the self, in the eyes of the community. Who decided it was dishonorable to live outside like an animal?

Brittish people used to hire ornamental hermits to live in their gardens and add an air of intellectual depth and romantic melancholy to the landscape.

Homeless people are geniuses and fun heroes!!

Things I have advocated for in this blog:

building a guillotine for using on police

making post-modern art

enjoyment of morbidity

being ugly

anarcho-primitivism

being childish

being homeless

doing parkour, especially badly

eating dirt

urban blight

drinking Redbull

fickleness

laughing at the pain of strangers

vandalism

dancing badly

laziness

using plastic as a food ingredient

incorrect taxonomy

idolizing recklessly violent individuals

quitting your job if they don't let you wear wet clothes

indulging depressive impulses

publicly making a fool of yourself

being a Juggalo

How can a person who advocates for these horrors claim to be an aesthete?

Easy. By holding two contradictory opinions at the same time.

I genuinely believe in the human need to strive for beauty and orderliness and harmony, and I genuinely believe that exhibiting chaotic behavior is fun and worthwhile and meaningful.

I'm not saying "I was only joking." I meant that stuff. I am like an onion, remember? Layers.

And now I'm saying that beauty is fun too.

Beautiful things that are fun

I love lists. Such a fabulously lazy way to write.

a perfectly ordered bookshelf

cleanliness

beautifully presented food

neoclassical architecture

literary fiction

healthiness

sharing things with loved ones

maternity

childhood

science

ASMR

taking responsibility

laughter

How I learned to freely self-contradict

I read a book called "Pretty Shield: Medicine Woman of the Crow," which is a biography of a Crow woman that was written by an English man, by writing down the sign-language translation of her story. So it was translated twice - from Crow to sign-language, and sign-language to English. As you can imagine, there is quite a bit of controversy in the Crow community about this book's accuracy.

We don't know what parts of it are real and which parts of it are misunderstandings.

I was on high alert when I read it.

In one part of the book, when she is describing her tribes social structure, she said that the men were the hunters and warriors, and the women did the safer jobs like processing the prey, making shelter, moving housing from one location to the next, keeping the animals, and preparing food.

In another part of the book she tells a story about when she was 5 years old, she got her first "own" horse and her first bow and arrows. She hopped on her horse with her friend and they hunted a baby bison together, successfully. They turned this bison into meat, leather for a child-sized tent, and other goodies. The adults around her beamed with pride.

So the men are the hunters, but the adults allow, and are proud of a 5 year old girl hunting.

Which one of these are true: both, one, the other, or neither? We'll never know.

But what if both are true? What if it was men's role to hunt, and people who were not men hunted? A contradiction!

Can it be fine? Can two contradictory statements be true? What if we just say "yes." What if we just let it be true?

Nothing happens. It's literally fine. Try it!

Be 100.

Best human invention ever

It's a practical mode of transportation. Bikes beat scooters, motorcycles, cars, walking, horses, everything.

Every time I ride my bike, I think "WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" It never gets old.

I even say it out loud sometimes, when I'm in the mood for being a fool.

The fuel is calories = yay food-eating!

Less dependence on fossil fuels = fuck every single oil company with something hard and sand-papery!

Can ride a bike at any age. No license required. Be 3. Be 100.

Tortoise beats the hare

Faster is not better by every measure.

Bikes pose less of a threat to others. The danger of cycling comes almost entirely from cars.

You can stop easier to check out if a pile of trash has some treasure in.

You can more easily admire the work of your local graffiti artists.

You can worship the weather gods.

You wont mush any animals except sometimes a fly goes directly into your eyeball.

Customize it

Get a saddle that suits your own personal butt.

Paint it. Decorate it. Get those spoke light thingies.

Make a frankenbike out of old bike parts. Tallbikes, choppers, tandems, etc.

Attach a trailer and transport large objects.

Have a speaker and annoy everyone with your tunes.

An old friend of mine once put a car horn on his bike and would honk back at cars. HAHA!! Take that, bastards.

Make it extra-ugly so no one wants to steal it.

Bikes rule

When you ride your bike, you increase the overall average of fun being had in the world.

DO YOUR PART! HAVE MORE FUN! RIDE YOUR BIKE!

A desire path is a shortcut people have taken so many times, it erodes the grass away, forming a cute little path.

Fuck the sidewalk. Fuck "supposed to." Fuck the rules. Just go however you want.

Take a shortcut. Be the first guy who goes the smart way. People will copy you and you will feel cool.

"oh no! the grass!" shut up. pavement is worse. both for your knees and the environment.

what is this, a prison? what are we even doing?

Apply the desire path mentality to everything

Make your own little shortcuts. They will become fun little traditions.

automate it

write a macro

build a robot to do it for you

make peace with the /tmp folder. ~/projects is never going to happen.

write the README when you're done. you're going to change everything anyway

say "yes" to how you already do things. stop telling yourself you'll fix the process.

leave your desk messy. this is your real workflow. "clean desk" religion is dumb.

abandon all the books you don't like. you read it. done.

discard the clothing you only wish you wore

rename the "junk drawer" to something friendlier. you need that stuff. organizing is how you lose things.

buy a charger for every location

ghost all the energy-sucking losers in your life. you're not going to "write a proper response tomorrow"

stop watering the plant. it's dead.

make claims about joint health without having a clue. looking it up is boring.

It's time to accept observable reality over the identity you keep pretending to have.

we used to give jobs to dogs: rescue us in an avalanche, herd our sheep, retrieve the kill, find the dead guy in the woods, etc.

now dogs give us jobs: dog rescuer, dog trainer, dog photographer, dog groomer

we barely need dog labor anymore, but we still need dogs.

it's because they're fun and cute and full of love

all they want is fun.

go check out a compilation of dogs doing funny things. thanks internet. thanks dogs.

go sit in the park and look at how happy the dogs are to be walking outside

dogs even have a fun-indicator built into their bodies: tail wagging.

dogs don't have goals. they don't have ambition. don't want money or fancy shit.

food and fun. that's it. perfect.

life lessons from dogs

ourselves having fun makes other people have fun

others having fun makes ourselves have fun

get in the mud

eat the yummy food

if you're not having fun, the only acceptable alternative is to lay around being lazy

saying words is overrated

the mouth can be used as a hand

let's all scream together

lick stuff

eat wood

there's no difference between stuff you can break and stuff you're not allowed to break

running is fun when you're playing

just walk without a destination

People say that you shouldn't be so open minded that your brain falls out. I DISAGREE!! And so does Werner Herzog.

Let a penguin be a nihilist.

Witness the death of the man who took too big a risk.

Eat a shoe.

Calmly get shot during an interview.

Drag a ship over a mountain.

STARE INTO THE VOID OF HISTORY AND FIND MEANING THERE!

Pathology is fascinating

Why is it even bad to be insane? Because you're not contributing to the economy? Who cares!

Why is any human behavior even pathological? Who decides? It should be Werner Herzog.

Ideas for Herzog

Homeless with needles as achievement of peak hedonism

Schizophrenia as fluidity within the realms

"Laying flat" as proof of the achievement of our ancestors goals

Self-harming to reach Nirvana - meditating to death, minimalism as self-harm, etc.

THE MADMAN IS THE MOST RATIONAL PERSON IN THE ROOM

My Favorite quote

From Grizzly Man (2005)
"Here I differ from Treadwell. He seemed to ignore the fact that in nature there are predators. I believe the common denominator of the universe isn't harmony, but chaos, hostility, and murder."

Fun is funner when it's with a buddy.

If someone else is good at fun, you be their sub. Then you have fun too.

Imagine being table-shaped and you can carry a monkey around and make him have fun.

You would be so nice to do this for the monkey.

Enable someone's fun

Things that are better with horses:

Traveling long distances where there are no roads

War

Being rich and fancy

Being poor and not having a car

Farm work

Dressage

Hunting

Round pen

What horses say

"Get on my back and I'll do whatever you want"

"Take this..."

Fun is an instinct

Foals bolt and kick and rip out each other's manes. They play like we breathe.

Bucking is fun. We all know this.

Seek reward in success. The prize is rest.

Fun isn't earned. You're entitled to it.

Look how pretty.

Fun Hero: Retards

Fuckin magnets, how do they work?

Admit you don't know

The first step to enjoying being a retard, is admitting you're a retard. There's no real definition of the word, so I'm using it to mean, like, a person who doesn't know everything. A non-know-it-all.

A retard can be fun or unfun. If the retard is unfun, "retard" is a slur. If the retard is fun, it's a badge of honor.

Do you like fun and you don't know everything? Then you're a fun retard. You may now use the word "retard" freely and if anyone tries to stop you, you say "only members of the retard community are allowed to use that word, and I identify as a retard, so I can say it and you can't, you stinky asshole." The judgemental/unfun retard will be scared and leave you alone.

Neither not-knowing nor genuine intellectual disability should be stigmatized. Neither is shameful. Everyone is a retard because nobody knows everything.

Advantages to being a retard

"To know what you know and what you do not know, that is true knowledge."

-Confucius

It's a confusing and contradictory oroborous of smarts. Knowledge revealing ignorance revealing knowledge. This is freeing and fluffy and cool.

If we know what we don't know - we can learn more stuff.

Or we can make up fake explanations and giggle to ourselves at the absurdity.

I'll bet it's so much fun to be a flat-earth retard. It's fun until you make it a crusade, either against science or in the name of it.

Exercise in retardation

Shaggy 2 Dope is famous for his lyric "fuckin magnets, how do they work?" because it's supposedly a stupid thing to say.

He responded to this meme recently. I don't remember where he said it or when, and I'm too lazy to look it up, but here's what I remember:

He said the meme is not funny anymore. He knows the high-school science explanation, but he still doesn't understand it, and he doesn't want to understand it. The question was rhetorical. He's talking about things in life that seem miraculous. He likes small, daily miracles of life and that's what the song is about.

This proves that Shaggy is a retard and I respect him even more for it.

I am going to do an experiment with myself, for you, dear reader, to show you what I'm talking about. First, I will write down everything I remember from physics class about how magnets work. Then I will look up an explanation online and try to understand it. Then I will compare my mental state before and after.

My memory of the high-school explanation of magnets: In a non-magnetic metal, the electrons are going all crazy like a mosh pit. On a magnetic metal, the electrons are dancing in sync, like a boy band. This makes there be poles on the magnet, north and south. The poles make... other metals suck to itself? The missing piece of knowledge is between the poles and the attraction. How does it pull it?

Explanation from the internet:

First I looked at wikipedia. I learned that this force is not sucking or attraction, it's called pull (or repel). Doesn't explain HOW the polarity makes the pull/repel force happen, just that it does.

Searched Startpage for my question directly. First hit was the same nonsense as Wikepedia. Second hit was a question in Quora, that says "A magnetic field isn't a static aura; it's a continuous, directional loop. When two magnets suddenly snap together, it's just the invisible flow desperately trying to shorten its circuit."

So the answer to my question is basically that electricity is trying to find the shortest way, like lightning hitting the highest thing.

I don't feel smarter at all. This information is useless to me. Shaggy was right: ignorance is bliss when you fill in the blanks with "miracle". Retards win every time. The fun comes from the magic, not the smarts.

Being a retard is fun. Being a retard is better. Confucius and Shaggy agree.

The world would be better if we were all retards together. Take your pretension and shove it.

both. obviously both. both is worse and worse is better.

genius

Braveheart. if you have never seen Braveheart you are wasting your life. why are you alive if you haven't seen Brraveheart? get out of my face.

Mad Max is my utopia. When I dream of a perfect world, it's the Mad Max apocalypse.

Apocalypto? are you kidding me? one of the best movies ever made.

Maverick? Pocahontas? the Jesus story but gore? show me one IMDB profile that even comes close. you can't. Mel Gibson wins.

insane

people who are artistic geniuses are sometimes insane. mel is one of these.

he has some kind of religious psychosis? he's a neo-nazi? violent outbursts? i'm not even clear on what the controversy with him is. when I read stuff about mel gibson being controversial, i just thought "of course" and my brain didn't think it was worth saving. obviously he's insane. he has to be insane or else why would he exist?

does someone just make Apocalypto and go home and be normal? no. of course not. that's not how this works. get real.

what is even insanity? basically just being disfunctional in society? if you are loose and free enough to qualify as disfunctional AND you do art?! bingo. then your art will be great. it will make peoples brains sparkle.

we don't need more paintings of flowers. we need bravery and battle and ugly wigs!

Just says whatever he wants. Does whatever he wants.

Is punching people the secret to freedom?

Is violence the answer after all?

Favorite Mike Tyson quotes

"The past is just us in funny clothes."

"The early Frankish kings really knew how to kill."

"I wish one of you had kids so I could stomp on their testicles."

"I don't understand why people would want to get rid of pigeons. They don't bother no one."

In response to an interview question about taking a lot of rage into the ring: "Who cares? We're going to fight anyway."

"I wanna eat your children. Praise be to Allah!"

"I'm a big, strong nigga that knocks out people and rapes people and rips off people's dicks."

"I'll fuck you 'til you love me, faggot."

"I love to suffer. I don't want no good time."

If he'd had all the things a child needs "[I'd be] the heavyweight bitch of the world"

"Nothing more funny than poverty."

"Life isn't about winning. It's about losing."

Other excellent stuff about Mike Tyson

His name is Mike. MIKE!! HAHAHAHAH that doesn't fit.

His face tattoo has its own wikipedia page.

The show "Mike Tyson Mysteries" was brilliant art.

PIGEONS!!!

Lessons Learned

Go to prison for a few years. It's whatever.

Violence is the answer.

Get a tattoo on your face. Also pigeons.

Just do whatever you want and it's fine and fun.

Take life. Take it.

There are many different kinds of intelligence.

Paris wrote a memoir

...and I read it. It was excellent. Here are some of my favorite quotes:

I don't just love fun. I need fun. Fun is my jet fuel.

Creative energy's evil twin is troublemaking compulsion

Never regret anything, because at one time it was exactly what you wanted.

Key elements of partying like a star:

Hydration

Stay pretty (drunk is gross)

Wear boots (not heels)

You're not lucky to be at the party, the party is lucky to have you.

The feeling of having uneven sleeves is hell.

I'm not saying the world revolves around me. I'm saying MY world revolves around me, just as your world revolves around you.

[Sneaking out at night to go to parties] was all about the feeling: freedom, abandon, adrenaline.

I didn't see why anyone should care what I did.

I wrote these quotes in my journal, so I don't know if I copied them down correctly. You'll have to read it yourself to find out!

She is a great influence

Her teenage years were traumatic and she wasn't properly protected. BUT SHE CAME OUT COOL AS FUCK!!

famous for being a fun maniac - and little else

sells a bunch of products with her name on it - fun-reputation sells

doesn't give a fuck - your hate is not her problem

does a silly voice - how wierd is it even possible to be?

We should be copying her attitude, not her outfits. LET'S ALL BE LIKE PARIS HILTON!!

Is Redbull selling drinks to fund stunts or funding stunts to sell drinks?

The company is so confusing. The confusion is part of the fun!

They're just doing whatever they want and it doesn't matter.

And they're wildly successful at it.

Gives you wings

WTF does "Redbull gives you wings" even mean?

Does it mean it gets you high? Because it sounds like it's saying it gets you high.

It doesn't get me high. It gives me anxiety and gingivitis.

Redbull on YouTube

WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!

It's completely bonkers.

Throwing people off cliffs, out of airplanes, OUT OF THE STRATOSPHERE.

Felix Baumgartner is ded. Poor buddy just wanted his adrenaline fix. RIP.

Redbull doesn't give a shit. There are plenty other ones of that kind of guy.

Redbull events

Redbull doesn't sponsor events. They create events.

Try to fly your homemade airplane.

Ride a silly bike over obstacles. Crash into water.

Xtreme!!!!!!! with a capital X and no E

Remember in the late 90s when everything was Xtreme? Doritos, sour candy, skateboarding, everything.

That was so so fun. Neon! Exclamation points! AAAAAAHHH!!

TO THE LIMITS!

Take everything to the limits.

A fun hero is someone who demonstrates and endorses fun, usually publicly.

You can learn about fun from them. Also watching someone else have fun is fun.

Shaggy 2 Dope

Why Shaggy 2 Dope is fun:

Paints his face - wholesome and silly - literal clown

Raps about murderin' - storytelling is healthy for our souls

Irreverant podcast - makes fun of the dead, makes fun of juggalos in the chat, makes fun of himself, chews food in the mic

Certified bad-boy - everyone loves a bad-boy

Showers his audience in soda - it's an important part of his career

Can't stop saying "know what I'm sayin'" - total overlap between the guy and the persona

What we learn

Being hated - Everyone hates the ICP. Hates their fans. Their music. If everyone is making fun of everyone else, we're MAKING FUN!!!

Being 0 The Fool - When you try something new, you don't know if it's going to work, but you have to do it to find out. Before we can have fun, we have to be the fool. Start the new journey cycle! The more you do it, the more fun you'll have, the more skills you'll build, and the more satisfying and meaningful your life will be.

Embody fun - BE fun. Shaggy 2 Dope IS fun. You can BE fun too.

HE TALKED TO ME

I made fun of Shaggy in The Shaggy Show chat and he made fun of himself and me back!! It was so exciting!

ICP guy talked to me!

Being tired hurts. Fuck tiredness.

Getting enough sleep enables fun and joy.

Preparing for fun is fun. Anticipation of fun is fun.

Sleep is comfy, cozy, feels good. It's not a drag. Sleep rules.

Less is not better.

Sleep health

You don’t need a stupid sleep gadget to measure your sleep. You can feel if your sleep was good or not. Just feel your feelings.

Fix your sleep problems.

Mattress uncomfortable? Try a futon. Softer is not better.

Blanky not comfy? Get one made of natural materials.

Neck hurts? Get a better pillow.

Getting woken up? Remove the distractions.

Worry-insomnia? Solve your problems.

Sleep culture

Sleeping 8 hours, only in the night, is a relatively new invention. It started in the industrial revolution.

Before the world was industrialized, there was never a time of day where all the adults were sleeping at the same time.

Maybe you’re predisposed to sleep during the day. Maybe you need 13 hours. Maybe your sleep needs change with the seasons.

The fire should never go out.

Whoever started the thing with “you’ll never be successful unless you wake at 5am” should be put to trial. How dare someone spread lies like this and how shameful to believe it? Who the fuck wants the kind of success that requires this?

SLEEP!

Fix your sleep! Don’t believe the sleep lies! Have more fun!

Autonomy isn't a political ideal. It's encoded in your physiology. Being enslaved feels bad because it is bad for survival.

This history nerd who is obsessed with vikings doesn't understand this.

Even this feminist who tries to debunk cavewoman myths doesn't get it.

Bernard Cornwell writes his popular Viking novels as if women didn't exist until someone needs to be raped.

Prehistoric societies were not patriarchal or matriarchal or egalitarian. Women did not have rights. Men also did not have rights. There were no rights. No lawyers to invent these fantasies.

Prehistoric people were AUTONOMOUS and FREE. (They weren't free like modern libertarians fantasize. They were free because nobody could trap them.)[^1]

How our ancestors married and raised children

"Durr men locked their women in caves to protect them durrr" I don't have to tell you that living in damp darkness is a recipe for quick death, and you also can't lock up a cave. The mother of the nuclear family raising kids alone in a house while the father is out bringing home the bacon is not normal. It's an experiment, and the results are embarrassing as fuck.

Prehistoric people died, separated, remarried, cheated, did polygyny, ran away, were hermits, etc.[^2] Saying that one man and one woman should mate for life is pure nonsense. I cringe at the ignorance of calling this "traditional." This is not a tradition in any culture anywhere. "Durr men are the leaders of the household" that doesn't even make any sense.

Hunter-gatherer child-rearing was radically communal:

Newborns were passed hand-to-hand 8 times per hour (documented among Efe and Aka peoples)[^3]

By 18 weeks old, Efe infants had interacted with up to 14 different caregivers in a single day[^3]

From around age 2, children spent most of the day in mixed-age playgroups (ages 2-16) with minimal adult supervision[^3]

Older children learned caregiving by actually doing it—supervising younger kids, teaching skills

Alloparents (non-parental caregivers) provided nearly half of all childcare[^3]

Also there was no school. Kids just learned by copying adults. Gatekeeping knowledge is a joke.

How we were healthy

Allocating time, separate from our "productive" time to exercise as an end in itself sucks. No one likes the gym unless they're insane or boring. Normal daily life made prehistoric women 11-16% stronger than today's elite rowers.[^4] "Stayed home with the children" my ass. The fact that there is no sexual dimorphism in Vitamin D requirements is proof enough that this is bullshit.

Mental health (which is in no way separate from physical health) was ensured by giggling with your friends all day while you "work" (live life). Work did not separate you from loved ones. Work was not "work." Loneliness was impossible. (So was privacy. So was "modesty.") There was no money. No work was valued higher than other work. "I make the rules because I earn the money" no shut up that's not real.

People's diets were also SHARED. It wasn't that each man brought home their own kill for their own family. If someone shot a bison, everyone ate.[^5] The whole group dug up tubers together. If a man broke his leg or went off to battle another tribe, his family didn't suddenly become vegan. No one was getting morbidly obese while another struggled to feed their children. Children had their own weapons they could even hunt with themselves.[^7] Hoarding was impossible.[^6] Starving was done as a team! Have you ever wondered why it's so interesting to know what other people are eating? It's because of this.

How to live like a cave person

Have you ever read The Godfather by Mario Puzo? I'm not talking about the movie. The movie sucks. Fuck the movie. I'm talking about the BOOK where Don Vito does people favors, and then they owe him. That's not corruption, it's what people did before banks existed. It's called "interdependence".[^6] I'm dependent on you and you're dependent on me, and we're both dependent on Fred who is also dependent on us both. None of us are replaceable or interchangeable. We are not dragons. We are bees. We are all interdependent and autonomous.

Don't tell me what to do. I don't tell you what to do either. The law doesn't tell us what to do. There is no law. If we want to do something anti-social, we probably die and win a Darwin award.

We be nice to each other and it rules. Freedom and fun. Feels good. Feels RIGHT.

Reject convenience. Take the stairs. Knead the bread. Lift the child. Ride a bike or walk to the location. Carry the basket of laundry on your hip to the clothes line across the field. Chop the wood. Craft the tool. Process the kill. Carry the backpack. Grind the grain.

Wear practical clothing. Match with your crew. Invent a silly hairstyle and rock it together. Invent a call you can recognize from 100 meters. Sing your tribal song in harmony. Beat the drums. Dance around the fire. Party all day, every day.

Fun is in your DNA (also in your mRNA). Those who rejected fun died, for most of human history. Have fun and be like a caveperson.

So this guy who worked at the art museum drew eyes on a painting of three heads without faces.

Here is the original article: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-60330758

LOOOOOOOOOOL he just drew on it. IT WAS HIS FIRST DAY ON THE JOB!

It needed eyes on it, so he drew eyes on it. It's not that crazy.

It's medium crazy.

Motivation

"His motives are still unknown but the administration believes it was some kind of a lapse in sanity," exhibition curator Anna Reshetkina said.

How dare she assume it was a lapse? Who said he was ever sane?

The man had an impulse and he went for it.

Why are there zero interviews with this guy? I can't even look it up because it doesn't say his name.

I want to interview him.

Do you remember YOLO?

Let's bring back YOLO!! That was so fun.

When we find out who this brave genius is, he can be the face of the second YOLO movement. We'll make t-shirts.

Take a moment to recall a time you had fun - how it felt and what you were doing. Does thinking about it make you have fun again? It's past fun - fun you have in the present when you remember fun you had in the past.

Thinking about what the internet used to be like makes me have past fun. People were so weird on the internet back then. It was wild!

You could be someone else in a separate world, trying on identities like silly outfits in a thrift store, dropping and adding pieces at will, exploring anything you were interested in with no real-world consequences.

WTF happened to the internet?

Everything you do on the internet now is connected to your real-life identity. Everything is supervised and controlled - it sucks.

All your vulnerabilites are exploited so they collect as much data as possible to sell to advertisers, banks, insurance companies and other UNFUN RETARDS.

No longer do you get to see what you subscribe and follow. You're shown what keeps your attention the longest - a fuckload of negative bullshit.

Everyone needs to stop aspiring to be fancy. Start aspiring to have fun!

What is an RSS Feed

So now that the internet sucks - what are we supposed to do when we want to relax and shut off? Psychology gives us the answer - stories add meaning to life and are relaxing.

Listen to a story

Read a story

Tell a story

Watch a story be performed

You control what content you consume with RSS!!! You can have real stories by real people - not proprietary mega-corporations who don't care if you live or die.

You subscribe to feeds, and your RSS reader makes you one feed of only that content, in chronological order. No ads, no suggestions, no algorithm.

How to use RSS

I'm not going to write a tutorial. Just look it up. Find instructions. Follow them.

And here is the link to subscribe to a fun retard.

The Suez Canal was blocked for six days from 23 to 29 March 2021 by the Ever Given, a container ship that had run aground in the canal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Suez_Canal_obstruction

All that shit couldn't get where it was going.

18,000 containers of consumer junk like electronics, toys, fast fashion, machinery, and other manufactured products.

But it doesn't matter, because the cargo's final destination was always going to be the same = the landfill.

The planet absorbs the aftermath.

"HOW DARE YOU!" -Greta

A guy literally died because he was trying to save some asshole's millions.

It's funny when those who exploit our beautiful planet have negative consequences.

We all had fun together

The internet, correctly, treated this saga like a comedy.

We counted the days and laughed at images of a single digger trying to free the Ever Given.

The excavator operator hated those memes. They made him work harder because of course they did.

LOL the name of this monstrosity was THE EVER GIVEN haha the universe made a joke

They tried to blame the captain (named Wang Dong!) of the ship. The audacity.

Do they not own mirrors? Surely they need Propofol to sleep at night.

Tragedy and comedy are a yin-yang. We laughed. Someone died. Both are true.

How dare someone waste resources to this degree? We have not inherited the Earth from our ancestors. We have borrowed it from our children.

I normally don't pay attention to the news.

The only news I care about is animal news and environmental news.

Politics can suck my ass. Same with business.

But I finally got a grown-up library card. Before I was using my kids (free) library cards. Now I get all the newspapers and magazines for free online. It is 20€/year.

Explosive Diarrhea

Seeing the words "explosive diarrhea" in the news every day brings me joy.

I even learned how to spell the word "diarrhea"! Bonus!

In German, it's called "explosionsartigen Durchfall" haha. also funny.

Diarrhea cha cha cha

One time I got obsessed with the diarrhea song and I sang it so much I made my daughter cry. I just couldn't stop.

New verses just flowed forth without any effort. The words just appeared in my brain and I had to let them out.

Maybe my earworm was writing diarrhea poetry. <3 love him.

If this ever happens again, I will write it all down and put it on the internet. The internet needs more fun.

THE INTERNET NEEDS MORE FUN! EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA!

how can a movie be so confusing and so predictable at the same time? fascinating. i was glued to the screen.

how can it be so beautiful and so poorly animated? how did they do it? incredible.

One day, several years ago, I was on a bike ride with my daughter, and she asked me "Why are there bird chunks everywhere?" and I laughed so hard I had to stop my bike to ensure our safety during my affect.

It was true. There were bird chunks littering the ground.

I couldn't explain it to her. I didn't know. I still don't know.

I started documenting the phenomenon photographically.

Someone explain this:

what the actual fuck?

poor buddy

does this happen where you live?

did someone eat it?

airplane propellers???

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

no :(

i hope he lived a long life full of fun and love

MAKE IT STOP!!

what a waste.

BIRD CHUNKS!!!

Birds

Birds are beautiful and magical and THEY CAN FLY!!!

Majestic. Cute. Free. Delicious. Soft. Musicians. Perfect.

What could anyone ever complain about birds? People who call pigeons "flying rats" are instantly disqualified from my respect. Pigeons are angels. Also rats are.

Then... why is it fun to find a bird chunk?

CHUNKS

It's because of the word "chunk."

CHUNK!! It's even better than "slop"!!

Also it's because of the mystery. Why is this happening? I've only ever seen bird chunks in the city where we live. Nowhere else.

Flat, dehydrated frogs ("flanimals," I call them) can be found on any road-through-the-woods in the world.

Bird chunks are special. Bird chunks are gross. Bird chunks are mysterious.

Go out and enjoy something morbid today!

Corporations are stockpiling oceans of data SO worthless. Tracking where your eyes linger, how long you hover, which pixel you tapped and then regretted tapping. If meaning were a measure of storage, they'd be archiving the digital equivalent of lint.

We're torching rare earth metals and diverting rivers to cool servers storing nothing but our digital footprints of hesitation. Strip-mining a mountain to archive the receipt for a sandwich we never ate.

We're wasting the Earth to save literal bullshit. 400 million TERABYTES PER DAY of this nonsense. 220 ZETTABYPTES PER YEAR!!

We're trading our descendant's future for this garbage.

"Not in my name"

Boycotting stuff is pointless. We all know this.

Demand decreases -> companies still want to profit as much/more than before -> decrease production costs -> product gets cheaper -> sell more than before

For example, when demand for fuel dropped, oil companies didn't scale back, they invented new plastic products for people to "need," ensuring the oil kept flowing.

Another example is veganism. You stop buying meat to spare the animals, the factory farm crams twice as many chickens into the same cage, halve the price per pound, and sell more chicken than ever before.

There are no floor to what they'll liquidate of our children's inheritance. Not the rivers, not the topsoil, not the climate that made civilization possible.

It almost pushes one towards accelerationism...

Consciousness > boycott

Better than boycott is to stop being a p-zombie today!

Consciousness is magical and fun!

Notice what is actually fun and what isn't. Stop doing the things that are not actually fun.

Notice what makes you feel good and what doesn't.

Notice which behaviors you do automatically and consciously stop doing the bad ones.

Quit your addictions

Abandon the goals you're working towards that were set by others.

Set goals that are truly yours

Stop reading from the script. Say something new.

Remember that you're obligated to literally nothing

Reject convenience at every opportunity

Concrete examples

Delete all the photos and videos you'll never look at again - such a relief to let go

End your online subscriptions - stop consuming garbage

Delete your social media accounts - make your own website instead, be IRL social

Borrow stuff from the library - feels like stealing and stealing is fun

Support pirates over mega-corporations - stealing is fun

Buy refurbished electronics instead of new ones

Buy second-hand clothes and objects instead of new ones

Never impulse-buy anything ever again - feeling smart is fun

Eat leftovers.

Ride your bike as transportation - sell your car, quit your gym

Get a job you actually like to do

One pair of shoes is plenty

Let's all be cavemen again

One day, humans will live in the stone age again. There's no doubt about it. The question is when the crash will happen, and how many billions will die in it.

No matter how slowly we use our non-renewable resources, they are non-renewable and will therefore run out eventually.

Get used to the caveman lifestyle and you'll have more fun today!

A fun report is a structured evaluation where someone tests an activity, idea, or experience specifically to assess its enjoyment value, then documents the results. IT'S SOMETHING I INVENTED!

Core components:

What was tested — The activity, idea, or experience being evaluated

What happened — What actually occurred during the test (not just what was planned)

Fun level — A subjective rating or description of how enjoyable it was

Key observations — What made it fun or not fun, unexpected moments, what could be improved

Verdict — Whether it's worth pursuing further, modifying, or abandoning

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR FUN REPORTS TO THE HATE MAIL PAGE! Clicking the button will open a mail to me!

Fun is meant to be shared!! Fun reports don't have to be good or well-written. Easy is better than hard.

Invention process

When my son said that he wanted to invent a game, I was instantly PUMPED! Children have the best ideas for fun and with a little support, can realize them. Son, I am your idea printer. Just tell me what to do.

The game environment

"It should be a board game," he said, so we visited the paper recycling bin to find an old box. We selected the largest piece of cardboard we could find, and took it home.

I was interested in how we would get this giant piece of cardboard to fold into a shoebox, so I looked at the other board games we have, and made a plan:

It worked! First try! The board folds into an old shoebox. (First fold in half the hot-dog way and then fold away from the cuts.)

Now he was free to design the little world the game takes place in. This was done in open conversation, where he explained his ideas and I reality-checked them. This is also when we discovered that we would need a die to play.

Important to me, was that we don't buy (or 3D print) any new junk, and it was important to my son was that he get to have full creative control.

Easy. LEGOS! ...or other plastic blocks that click together...

Gameplay

Ingredients:

Board download the image for reference

Legos or other blocks that click together

One die

2-4 players, 3+ years old

First you build your bosses out of lego. The more pieces you use, the harder they are to defeat.

Each character starts with one lego piece, in the "house". The youngest goes first and the rotation is clockwise. Every turn, you get to roll the die once: to move, fight a boss, or upgrade in an upgrade house. You can't use one roll to do two actions.

Once inside an upgrade house, on your next turn, you roll twice to try to get the number you need. In upgrade house 1, you try to get a 2 or 3 for 2 or 3 bricks. If you get 2 or 3 on the first roll, you don't get a second roll in that turn. In upgrade house 2, you want to roll 5 to get 5 bricks.

In the hospital you get two free pieces, without rolling, and without waiting for your next turn.

When you are standing on a boss battle spot, on your next turn, you roll first. The number you get is how many pieces you take from the boss, and add to your character. Then, in the same turn, someone else rolls for the boss to see how many pieces he gets from you.

Two people can battle one boss at the same time. Your turns go together. First one character rolls to take pieces from the boss, then the other character. Then someone rolls for the boss:

1 : boss gets nothing

2 & 3 : boss gets one piece from each of you

4 & 5 : boss gets two pieces from each of you

6 : boss gets three pieces from each of you

Instead of rolling on your turn, you can put your hand on the battle challenge spot, and challenge another player to battle. Then you both teleport to the 1-on-1 arena. When it's either of your turn, you attack the other, or run away by putting your hand on the battle challenge spot.

If you lose all your pieces in a battle, you're dead. If all the bosses are dead/integrated into the characters, then the game ends. The pieces of each character are counted, and the one with the most pieces wins.

Conclusion - Fun Analysis

The creation of this game was fun for everyone involved. For my son, it was fun to invent a brand new game. For me it was fun to support the realization of his idea.

The fact that playing this game is fun, is the cherry on top.

We would like to open-source this game. Everyone is free to make this game, change the rules, make a digital version, etc. FUN IS MORE FUN WHEN IT'S TOGETHER AND FREE!!

Salt is literally rocks. Volcanic black salt is gourmet. Eating the Earth is only fine when it's expensive?

We pathologize a Hatian cuisine because they're poor?

I want to try it. They look so good!

Pica disease

Why is geophagia included in pica disease? Someone who eats razors is in the same category as people who want some yummy minerals from the Earth? Dumb.

Dirt isn't trash. Dirt is treasure. Eat it!!

Ever heard of it?

The purpose of clothing is not only to protect us from the elements.

It's also to inform others about what kind of person you are.

If we make things easier for each other (by explaining ourselves with our outfit) people like us more.

No one likes to be confused. We like to feel smart.

When we make others feel good, everyone has fun!

(In case you are blind, this is a picture of some sorority sisters all wearing the same outfit. The caption says "TWINNING!! <3")

We can easily see what kind of people these are, because they all match. If we know what one of them is like, and then meet another one, we know what to expect. Our brain needs to work less hard this time.

Individuality

A lot of talk about fashion is about individuality and personal style.

This is a scam to get you to buy more shit. Don't fall for it.

None of us are independent. None of us are individual. We are interdependent.

Humans work in groups. We are like bees.

Uniforms make life easy. Easy is better than hard.

Face paint

This is tribal face paint:

So is this:

Both communicate group membership, conformity, beliefs, beauty, and status.

They tell the in-group "don't worry about me. I won't cause any problems." They fit in. They're "basic".

That message gives us freedom. You think you're dressed for comfort? Wrong. You're dressed so strangers don't call the cops. You're wearing your normal-person disguise for whatever "normal" is in your situation. So are the Crips. So am I. We're all in costumes! The question isn't 'who are you?' It's 'what game are we playing?'

The flop-n-slop is when two people go to a restaurant, order the food they want to eat, then you flop one plate on the other, mix everything up, split the slop in half, and each has to eat their whole plate of food. You're not allowed to coordinate your orders to make the slop better.

A friend of mine invented this in 2012.

Fun report

Slop is a fun word. The best part of the whole AI bullshit is that we're using the word "slop" a lot. SLOP SLOP SLOP!!

I have done the flop-n-slop exactly once in my life and it ended up being so good and fun.

I got chilly-cheese fries, and my friend got eggs, bacon, and hash browns. The resulting slop was delectable.

It's a practice in trust. What if he'd ordered a desert?! It would have been disgusting.

You have to finish your plate, no matter what. Wasting food is not fun.

Get out there and invent new fun today!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMftQsngoys

First I'll talk shit and then I'll say what I agreed with.

Having fun will make you hotter and richer

She said: if you max fun you'll get everything you want in life:

health

wealth (literal money)

happiness

success

hotness

Who said that those were the goals? We get those things to max fun, not max fun to get those things. Dumb.

Betterhelp sponsorship
Fun itself is therapy. We don't get a therapist to enable fun.

She sells a course to "awaken your feminine energy"
wtf does that mean? who wants this? what is feminine energy? again she's predefining the goal of fun to something that's not the goal at all.

We have more health knowledge about our own bodies than ever before. We optimize our lives so much that we forgot how to have fun.

reading -> productivity

walking -> step count

cooking -> tracking macros

journaling -> healing

travel -> instagram

frienship -> networking

rest -> recovery

working out -> optimization

Are people really doing this? I have never done any of these things. Is she projecting? Or is this normal? Have I been using the word "optimize" wrong?

"Creativity" means the ability to think

No it doesn't. It means creating something. Thinking is not creative. Creating things is.

Fun makes you hotter

It definitely makes you more attractive, but "hot" is something specific and gross.

Lower the bar for what counts as fun.

No. It's the opposite. Stop being content with sipping a cup of tea. The status quo sucks. Get out there and have some real fun. Get loose.

Fun is energy - it turns the system back on

We don't need to earn rest and enjoyment - we're entitled to it

Consistency and discipline are easy/effortless when it's fun - they're a byproduct of passion

This is basically the meaning of "easy is better than hard"

How can I make this more fun? Fun is available - actively choose it.

I wrote/write about this here and here and basically everywhere

Build your life and work around what you enjoy

how is this not obvious? why do we need to say it? our brains reward us with happy feeling when we do the evolutionary advantageous behavior. fun is an instinct. stop repressing it today!

Who decided that art should be in galleries and museums? "Art prisons", I call them.

JK, I don't call them that.

What if someone wants to display their art to the public, but doesn't get their work accepted into a gallery?

Good news!!

You don't need an art degree.

You don't need to know what sells.

You don't need to follow any trends.

You don't need to be good.

You don't need to be a part of a movement.

All you need is some balls.

Graffiti as morally good

The world belongs to the people/animals in it. Not the government.

Graffiti says that no one gets to decide what art goes where, except for the artist.

Oh no! What if the property owner gets mad?! What about THE POLICE?!

Easy. Build a guillotine.

They're not the boss of you.

The internet sucks ass in 2026. Advertisements everywhere, mass surveillance, propaganda galore, unfun retards everywhere, etc. I don't wanna be mind-controlled. I wanna have fun! I wanna BE fun! I think about fun, therefore I AM FUN!

I want to:

be able to say "retard" as much as I want - also other naughty things

own what I buy and steal

do what I want

do everything I want

reuse my sweet, old, grampa Thinkpad

Home Lab n00b

When I started this project, I knew NOTHING about how servers work. The internet is a series of tubes....

But I wasn't intimidated because there are no consequences if I fail. GIVING UP IS FINE!!

This attitude makes doing HARD things EASY! "Nothing matters" -Carles

Process

The entire process was just looking up instructions and following them. I simply just looked it up. If I got stuck, I cheated with AI.

This process works for literally anything.

Recommendations:

Don't use Google - use a search engine that actually gives you information and not advertisements

Buy second-hand - the world has enough shit in it

Choose open source - someone made it for you to use. they are so nice!

Remember that you are smarter than the AI - don't believe the hype

Remember that no one is watching and no one cares

Setup

Hardware

Sweet, gentle, giving, kind, trustworthy, reliable, old Thinkpad - with Debian

An ethernet cable i had in a box of cables

Some "healthy" external SSDs

I host this website there

It's an Astro blog

I use Coolify to self-host

I made my own streaming service for my movies/music

Jellyfin

Tailscale

Conclusion - fun analysis

Having a home lab is FUN AS FUCK!!

made me feel smart

made me feel resourceful

the result is fun to use

gained independence from tech giants who profit off people's mental un-wellness

disproved the gate-keepers

Fun Report: Minecraft

better late than never

It's so fun. It has everything. Fight some badguys. Make a cutesy little home. Build a portal to another dimension. Alchemy. Solve little puzzles. Have little pets that get little babies.

I'm not even close to getting bored of it.

I have two multiplayer worlds on my homelab: one survival and one creative. It was also fun to learn how to manage this.

Minecraft is an 17 year old game and the hype is long past. Somehow this makes it even better. It doesn't feel trendy to be into it. It feels like the perfect time to start. The answers to all my questions have already been asked and answered on the internet.

Everything in my brain is squares. The buildings look like the architect designed them in minecraft. Bunbuns in minecraft! Saying "minecraft" in all the various English accents. Minecraft movie.

Anyway, that's why I haven't been blogging that much lately. I am in active video game addiction. YAY!!!

Everything costs way too much.

Becomes obsolete too soon.

You don't own the literal hardware you buy from them.

Everything is an upcharge.

Price-quality ratio is ass.

Borrowed a game from the library

I have a Nintendo Switch Lite. It's one of those things that sits in the back of my closet and mind, collecting dust and financial guilt.

I thought about getting Picofly installed, to buy some freedom with this thing, but investing an additional 90€ feels stupid at this point.

So I decided to borrow some Switch games from the public library.

Try to get some value out of the thing...

Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley

This game is fun, beautiful, cute, peaceful, green, and took me about 3 hours to 100%.

Game philosophies I agree with:

Parks are bad, wilderness is good

Rules are bad

Cops are bad

Eco-terrorism is how you beat the game (destroy a dam)

Vandalize parks - return them to nature

Teamwork makes the dream work

Signs are to be destroyed

No touching your surroundings

No camping

No music

No pipe smoking

No campfires

No looking/viewing

No boots

Theater is more powerful than just as entertainment

Fun Report

It was really fun and relaxing to play, but I'm glad I didn't spend money on it, since it only lasted a few hours.

Lesson learned: borrowing games from the library is the only way to get return on investment for the Switch.

Have you ever thought that eating plastic should be delicious?

You're right. It is.

Recipe

Mix butter and flour and whisk while it heats and boils.

Add milk to the approximate volume of plastic cheese you want to have. Salt. Whisk to homogeneity before it boils.

Add yellow plastic pieces and yellow crayons without paper. Keep whisking the whole time until everything is melted.

When it thickens, it's done. Enjoy.

Dunk chips in it.

Bring it to a potluck.

I subscribe to a lovely blog I found randomly online. It's a Chinese guy who writes about various topics.

I wonder if the original Chinese text is as poetic and sweet as the translation?

Examples:

"If you wear a hat, you feel that your head is very hot, your IQ is down, and you must beware of it being blown away at any time. Trouble."

"The horse has lost" = someone's name

"The Lemon roll" = his wife's name

"Small strong people" = bugs

"intellectually disabled" = adjective for retarded objects like computers and AI

Why is it embarrassing?

I have a mirror next to my desk so I can turn to the left and easily have fake arguments with myself.

Sometimes fake-arguing with myself leads me to the real solution.

I'm very good at arguing.

Boredom

Varg and David agree. Boredom is the ticket to creativity.

to originality

and we have to embrace it to have good ideas.

fuck.

Plants and Bugs are the same thing

My daughter said this the other day when I was going to check out a dead bug and it turned out to be a piece of a plant.

"Plants and bugs are the same thing"

It's true, somehow. Not biologically, but conceptually.

Barely-thinking lifes, often green or brown, completely interdependent.

I can't stop thinking about it.

They disguise themselves as each other.

Are plants and bugs one thing together? Or are plants the same thing as bugs?

Both. It's both.

One of my favorite thing in life is when there's a penalty kick and the goalkeeper dives in the wrong direction.

He has to choose which direction he will dive before he knows which direction the taker will kick the ball. And sometimes he's wrong and IT'S SO CUTE AND FUNNY!!

a total fail and everyone saw it!

now macho soccer boy has to pretend he's not embarrassed. hehehehe.

science

penalty research is a whole niche in sports science. they publish research on side biases. it's a real problem they are really trying to solve.

don't fix it

i hope they never solve this problem. i love it. it makes life better and sillier and cuter.

it's suprisingly hard to find compilations of these delights on youtube. best search term is "panenka penalty" if you want to get into it.

Is crying fun? Somehow, yes, it is. (Repressing your negative emotions causes cancer. Read The Myth of Normal by Gabor Mate for more info (parentheses wooo))

Stories

"We need stories. We need stories to understand ourselves. We are the only creature that does this unusual thing of telling each other stories in order to try and understand the kind of creature that we are. When a child is born, the first thing the child requires is safety and love. The next thing that the child asks for is, 'Tell me a story.'"

-Salman Rushdie

Tolkien finds the story-hungry child deep within my onion layers and feeds it bread and honey and a quest. It makes living feel profound and delicious and it hits so hard it waters my face.

Crying is a feature, not a bug. The overwhelm of magic is gushing from my eyeballs.

Tolkien was an onion. I just know it. There's no way he wasn't.

Tolkien playground

Here is how you know how to pronounce "ei" or "ie": you say the second letter. "Tolkien" is pronounced TolkEn, not TolkIn. In the movie, the Latin teacher gets this wrong. That doesn't make sense - why would a linguist not know this? To teach us to stop saying "Tolkin"? That scene took me out of the magic for a second.

I once read Marie Cachet's The Secret of the She-Bear and it's stuck in my head forever. Whenever I read stories, I take a peek at it through MC's lens. She argues that European myths and fairy tales are the key to reincarnation. When I first read that book, I thought it was so dumb, but it genuinely works and I changed my mind. Try it!

I want a group of art-nerd friends like Tolkien has in the movie. Overly-enthusiastic about beauty. Where are people like this? Can I borrow your time machine?

Inventing words is really really really fun. Here are some words my family has invented

Hice: rhymes with mice and means houses

Namana: watching music videos. Comes from the Mahnah Manah Song from Sesame Street.

The Witches Circle: a place in the woods where we sometimes go to play and make sacrifices

Bow-uh-kuh-suh: a fancy way to pronounce "box"

Bird chunks: a phenomenon in the city we live in where we find disembodied bird body parts on the sidewalk and we don't know how it happens.

Movie adaptations of books usually suck complete ass, and so do biopics, but the LOTR movies and this Tolkien movie are fantastic. They made the WW1 scenes look like Mordor! None of the actors miss! The cinematography has so many details! I identified so deeply with the Edith! Dragons!!! Crap, I'm crying again...

Anyway, I am going to finish the movie now. I recommend that you, dear reader, go cry to art today. It's lovely.

i used to love YouTube. people being silly and creative and free. teaching each other stuff. being hilarious. everything DIY.

now it sucks complete ass. so many commercials. ad-read interruptions. BUY THIS SHIT!! no.

strict guidelines. every video is the same. everyone has the same opinion.

pRoDuCtIoN qUaLiTy. stfu. seriously who cares?

the like and dislike has no effect on your recommended videos. it used to use that info to give you more of what you like. now the algorithm is so thoroughly opaque that there's no "you" in it anymore.

it's just regular TV now, but the actors don't get paid much.

ai slop. not even fun slop. just pure garbage.

i want to quit youtube

not fully, i'll still follow my favorite creators with RSS, but i already deleted my youtube account.

now i am in the phase of analyzing the gap this has left. here is what i (apparently) use youtube for:

noise to help me concentrate (wtf?)

instructions for fixing hardware

learning new skills

podcasts

something to waste time when i'm too lazy to do something real

plan

needing noise to help me concentrate is stupid in the first place. music. i will replace this with regular-ass music.

instructions for fixing hardware - i have no ideas for how to do this without youtube. i've installed a browser extension called "Improve Youtube" to hide the recommendations.

learn new skills - my current hobbies only require written instructions. i'll cross this bridge when i get there.

podcasts - all the podcasts i used to like aren't good anymore, so i will switch to audiobooks.

laziness - also audiobooks. or real movies. as if reading is hard? i am such a retard.

metrics

i will keep notes of the following:

how many videos i watch

how often i find myself watching without having had the conscious thought that i will now watch

feelings of withdrawal/cravings/impulses

quitting is a skill

everyone gets an addiction sometimes. it's normal, i guess. the better you are at quitting, the easier it is.

quit all the things that suck in your life and you'll be left with only the things that rule. fact.

"Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it?"

-Shrek

I, too, have layers, like an Ogre or an onion.

Child layer: plays, explodes, doesn't care

Adolescent layer: rages, rejects, resists

Adult layer: chooses all of it with full understanding

That's an extreme over-simplification, but whatever, fuck you.

Psychologists calls this being "multifaceted," but I am not like a diamond. I am like an onion. Stinky and delicious.

Childhood innocence is also not a thing. Whoever made that bullshit up is disqualified from the honor of onion status.

Cultural Expectations and Scripts

The expectation is that as we develop, we let go (reject/repress) the qualities of the previous self.

"Childish" is an insult to an adult. "Teenaged" is a synonym for immature.

We take this to the extreme. Fun is seen as frivolous. Banality is the standard. If you're smiling, you're an idiot.

"You have too much time on your hands" sends me into a murderous rage.

Am I supposed to be productive during every waking hour? Shut the absolute fuck up. No.

The adult gets to do their own risk-assessments. And reap their own rewards.

Loosen the reigns

Let some impulses rip.

Be childish.

Throw away your desk treadmill.

Wear all-black outfits.

Ignore a mess.

Never buy a decorative pillow.

Enjoy something ugly.

Set up autopay.

Lie to your therapist.

Hang out with your friends.

Build a slide in your house.

Spill cranberry juice on your beige sofa.

Break a stupid rule.

What matters? Nothing matters.

Let loose.

Be an onion. Tell the donkey he sucks.

It's fine.

The definition of broke

The average western homeless guy in 2026 lives a more luxurious lifestyle than a king in 1400.

Their clothes are made of materials that literally last for 200 years.

Their drugs come with bonus drugs mixed in.

People hand them money and survival stuff for nothing.

If they go in a store and steal some stuff, the worst thing that can happen is they get locked in a jail where all their needs are taken care of for free.

They have RIGHTS. A concept that a medieval king could never even dream of.

I never again want to see a video of a person sitting in a car, perfectly sterile, in stylish clothes, saying "I'm broke."

No, you're not. You're just comparing yourself to someone who sucks. You're saying that anything less than an entirely unsustainable standard is a problem.

Relative poverty

You need to redefine the baseline of what counts as human suffering. Surviving without luxury is actually normal.

Having fancy shoes is not fun. It sucks and is uncomfortable.

Having a closet full of new clothes is not fun. Fuck a "personal style." Just wear the same thing every day.

You don't need a car. You sure-as-shit don't need a gym membership. You can get a bike for free.

You don't need makeup. Or hairstyle. Or coffee. Or perfume. Or tattoos. Or a new anything. Being ugly is fine. It's fun. It's freeing.

You don't even need 99% of what we call "hygene". It's mostly fake and unhealthy.

Waaaaaa the rich are getting even richer! Yeah. Because you're giving them your money. Stop doing it.

Oh no! I was influenced by social media! You are intellectually disabled. Go do something fun instead.

Reset your standard to reality

You are an animal. This is what you actually need:

One single outfit

Basic food. Just enough to not be underweight.

A fresh water source

A tarp

Fun

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." -Albert Einstein

Einstein almost certainly did not say this.

It doesn't even sound like something that would come from a man who wrote and thought mostly in German. It sounds like the pithy, American, 1980s self-help phrasing from 12-step culture, which exactly where the evidence points.

We won't even change our minds about a quote about changing our minds.

Would this fictional Einstein have thought Edison insane after the 67th material failed to be a practical, commercially-viable incandescent filament?

Did that story even really happen the way we were told?

We bang our heads against the wall ✨together✨

It hurts, but everyone else is doing it, so we do it too.

In the Asch conformity experiments in the 1950s, 75% of participants went along with the confederate group's wrong answer, rather than saying the obvious truth.

Most people don't have the guts to disagree out loud.

They don't want to be the fool.

Being the fool is fun!

Someone has to be the first guy to say that the emperor is naked.

"But you said something different last week!" - Some idiot

I don't give a shit what I said last week. I CHANGED MY MIND!

"You said you wanted this!"

I wanted this before I knew how much IT SUCKS

Example

I tried to write a post about how fun pressure washing is, and realized that only humans can really be "fun heroes". But I've already labeled objects and behaviors as fun heroes: permanent markers, sleep, and bicycles.

Should I rename thoses posts?

Nah, fuck it, I'll just start a new category and remind myself that no one cares.

Because nothing matters.

Exercise

What have you changed your mind about, but not updated the behavior?

Permanent marker can be erased with sport sunscreen spray.

Tattoos can be lasered off.

Go public with your changed mind today!

How to catch an idea

It's like remembering. It's like fishing.

I need an idea

I am in a creative interlude.

The last time I was in this situation, the result was that I wanted to make a homelab and host my own website. This is done to my satisfaction.

I wrote about this process in my journal. How did I set the goal in the first place? I want to do a retrospective and adjust/update the process before beginning again.

05.10.25

On the 5th of October, 2025, I'd watched David Lynch's "The Art Life", and wrote down his creative process. I wrote:

Fishing-Idea Analogy

Getting an idea is like fishing

Wanting an idea = casting a lure

Fish bites = WRITE IT DOWN

When fish is caught - other fish come as part of the school - catch fragments

Analogy is now puzzle - you get fragments of it - save them even though you don't get it - one day it will make a picture

Intuition - Knowingness - People have different amounts of consciousness. Find where it is and get it.

Inspo from the world

Violence, suffering, hate, fear

Doesn't have to be this way but it is.

Have all of human nature in your art, not your life.

07.10.25

A few days later, Varg Vikernes posted a "short" (now (probably) deleted - I can't find it anymore) on YouTube about his songwriting/creativity process. This is what I wrote down:

Inspiration -
Music isn't created, it's remembered. Remembered by observing our own reactions. What feels wrong and what feels right? Everything has been played before - by our forebears. There truly is nothing new, only what has been forgotten.

How to remember better

Visit vestiges of our ancestors

Sing their song

Learn their language

Learn to think like them

Dress like them

Think like them

Look at and hang out with old trees

You are your ancestors

Blood memory

Ancestral memory

These methods are the same

These artists use different words and different analogies to describe their creative processes, but the processes themselves have near-total overlap.

Basically you observe the world, become conscious of yourself experiencing the world, and capture the ideas that appear in your brain as a result of this observation.

Journal continues

After those two entries, there are brainstorming sessions, fragments of ideas, song lyrics, poems, tarot card readings, etc.

I'm not going to say what these early fragments/puzzle pieces were. Many were insane, a few were illegal, a couple were dangerous. I captured all of them, hoping to compile a coherent and meaningful whole.

And it worked.

And now I want to do it again

After reviewing this process, I see no need to change anything. It worked perfectly and can be easily reproduced.

Journal freely - write down ALL the stupid ideas

Idea sex - fuck two existing concepts together to make a magical idea baby

Feel your feelings - pursue the ones that feel right and not wrong. Perform risk analysis.

HAVE FUN

Fun Skill: Dreaming

you can do anything, not everything

dreaming

why the fuck do we have one word for three things:

the sleep phenomenon when your brain makes a little movies for you

aspirations, ambitions, ideals

like, pipe dreams, or really stupid ideas, ie "you're dreaming. get real."

I want to talk about #2. This kind of dreaming is a skill - you can practice/train it. you can be good or bad at it.

setting goals

in order to set a "good" goal, first you have to dream.

don't let society dream for you. being rich, being beautiful, and being cool are dumb goals. they are #3 or #1 style dreams. it's fine to be poor, ugly, and cringe. anyone who says otherwise is miserable and wants company in their misery.

you have to set your goals autonomously. but how to do this? we've been trying to fit in our whole lives. we've been training the opposite of this.

you can hire a life coach to guide you. or you can just diy.

the steps

brainstorm - in this step, we're not being "realistic" (whatever that is). we're "fishing" ala David Lynch or "remembering" ala Varg Vikernes. for example, i dream of being the leader of library town in the Mad Max apocalypse. There is no library town in Mad Max. There is no Mad Max apocalypse. It doesn't matter: we're not being realistic.

get real - now you try to get as close as you can in the real world. using the example above, i could get a job in a library, practice leadership skills, and do "prepping" things like learning to shoot, fix broken things, get food without grocery stores, endure hardship.

living the dream

up until the post-modern era, the meaning of life was given to us by our culture. religion, tribe, nation, etc. now all that has been stripped away and we live in a world devoid of all meaning. we do stupid ass "searches for meaning" as if it could possibly be done independently. this isn't sad, though, it's awesome. the world devoid of meaning gives us the ultimate freedom. we can set our goals ourselves, autonomously. there are no gods to judge us. there are no overarching standards worth a second thought. no morality. we can make it up ourselves by just feeling our feelings.

reading recommendations

Mike Ma has two books out: "Harassment Architecture" and "Gothic Violence". There are also audiobooks on YouTube. These books are so juicy and delicious and will get you excited about accelerationism.

"Industrial Society and its Future" by Theodore Kaczynski. Also free to download off the internet. This book is as comforting to me as the bible is to christians.

i forgot

when i started writing this post, i had a really good point i wanted to make. then i started writing stuff and totally forgot where i was going. i can't remember it. it's lost for now. if i remember it i'll write a new post. whatever, fuck you.

Sometimes that boi will start singing "867-5309" or "Istanbul (not Constantinople)" and you're led to believe he is not your friend.

He just does that because he's bored. Pets need to know their role and be able to do their job correctly. Else, they become neurotic.

We need to train our earworm's skills to make him and ourselves happy.

How to train your earworm

Learn to notice when he's awake - become conscious of him wildin' out in your ear

Make a request to him - "please play [song I like]"

Positive reinforcement - reward the successes (with joy), ignore the fails

Also - listen to songs you like on repeat to teach him new tunes.

Soon he will become your personal jukebox.

Fun is a skill

Train your fun muscles!

Solve your problems!

Optimize your life!

Befriend your body buddies!

unless your pants are orange or something crazy, you can wear the same ones every day and no one will notice.

try it. wear the same jeans every day for a month and count how many people notice. i guarantee the answer will be zero.

you can save so much money. just buy one good pair and wear them every day.

invisible human

be old. old people are invisible. you can walk around doing crimes when you're old and no one will catch you because they can't see you.

once i found a bicycle bell on the sidewalk and took it home. later that day, the police knocked on my door: the bike bell had an airtag hidden inside, so that if the bicycle was stolen, the owner would know its location. the bike was stolen and the airtag was in my home. the moment i opened the door, the policeman deflated. there was no way this old person could be the thief. i gave him the bicycle bell back. no further investigation was neccessary.

what if i really had stolen the bike? they would never know because they couldn't see me. i am invisible. IT RULES!!

"but don't you miss all the attention..." no. i don't.

when i was younger, i couldn't wait to be old, so people would leave me alone. now i am old, and being invisible rules even harder than i thought it would. there are so many benefits.

if you are young and cannot old yourself, try an ugly outfit you found in the trash. it works.

Since the industrial revolution, laziness has developed a negative connotation.

Why, though? Laziness rules so hard.

Principle 10 of the agile manifesto is "Simplicity - the art of maximizing the amount of work not done - is essential."

Let's do lazy-maxxing!

This Bill Gates quote is also widely circulated: "I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it."

Find the easy way to do it!

I also have a vague memory of a quote by some primitive person that laziness is the natural state of mankind and over-working is retarded. I searched the internet to find the exact quote, but only found stuff about how we shouldn't have negative stereotypes about native peoples. It's not negative. It's AWESOME.

I'm too lazy to try any harder to find it.

Anti-hustle

The goals of hustle culture are stupid.

You want to be a millionaire for what?

You want to be a muscle-man for what?

You want to extend your lifespan for what?

Set better goals than that.

Poem by William Martin

Do not ask your children

to strive for extraordinary lives.

Such striving may seem admirable,

but it is the way of foolishness.

Help them instead to find the wonder

and the marvel of an ordinary life.

Show them the joy of tasting

tomatoes, apples and pears.

Show them how to cry

when pets and people die.

Show them the infinite pleasure

in the touch of a hand.

And make the ordinary come alive for them.

The extraordinary will take care of itself.

Conclusion

BE MORE LAZY!!

EASY IS BETTER THAN HARD!!

FIND ALL THE SHORTCUTS!!

You don't want to be embarrassing?

Wrong and dumb.

Being embarrassing is awesome.

Everyone loves it when someone is embarrassing.

Spread joy to others. Make a fool of yourself today!

Test: does this bring you joy?

The less you cringe, the more fun you have:

Lessons Learned

"Embarrassment is an underrated emotion. Go out there and make a fool of yourself." -Austin Butler

Who is Austin Butler? I'm too lazy to look it up. I wrote that motivational quote in my journal in December 2025.

Some activities are better when you're bad at it.

Have fun while being bad at something! Don't wait until you're good to have fun!

Life problems block fun.

Gods, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

You don't need any gods or courage to solve your problems.

You need problem-solving skills.

"The Problem-Solving Method"

I don't know what this method is actually called or who made it. I was taught this method under the title "The Problem-Solving Method."

It's THE one lol.

Works for any problem.

Steps:

Define the problem - Explain the problem in as much detail as possible. Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Side-effects? Patterns? Is it measurable?

List all the solutions - Brainstorm any and all solutions you can think of. Doesn't have to be realistic or possible. Write them ALL down.

Rank the solutions - Which solution makes sense to try first, second, etc.

Implement the solution - The top-ranked one first. That's why we did step 3.

Reflect - Is the problem solved now? Did it make a new problem? Should we try solution 2 instead?

Example

I want to go on a water slide but I don't have a car to get to the water park.

Buy a car, ride my bike, take the bus, hitchhike, stop enjoying water slides, build a teleportation machine, build my own water slide, backyard slip-n-slide

Ride bike, take bus, hitchhike, buy car, the other ones are impossible

Rode my bike but only got 1km before teh 38°C heat killed me.

Problem is not solved. I will try solution 2.

Rode bus to the water park.

Problem is solved.

DO IT!!

SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS!

HAVE MORE FUN!

IT'S EASY!

"...modern societies don't lose reality all at once. Instead, it's gradually replaced by copies of copies until the original version disappears completely."

-Jean Baudrillard

give me one example of something we do that resembles the original. is there anything left? laughing at farts, maybe?

even realness itself has been replaced by so many copies that it's been rendered meaningless.

"no-makeup" means painting an entirely different face onto your face

"conservative" isn't conserving any real historic principles. it's trying to conserve something that never really happened.

"beauty" as a behavior instead of a state

"health" as a mental illness

"success" and "progress" as destruction of environment

"tolerance" instead of community membership

"hygene" as consumption of disposable products

"smelling good" = artificial smell, "smelling bad" = healthy smell

sex as "performance" or "intimacy"

"normal" birth is medicalized birth

people of high "status" are the least respected people in society

religion is used as a cover-up for abuse and amorality

we think it's normal for clothing to be made of microsplastics for it to be rare to find plastic-free clothing

menstrual products are "gross" if they don't produce plastic waste

women are "radical" if they don't remove their body hair

employment as the only acceptable norm. (the whole concept of a job as "work" is less than 200 years old)

shampooing our hair and going outside without a hat

dead internet

dead art/culture

death of 3rd places

i could go on forever with this list but i need to stop. the purpose isn't to complain. the purpose is fun!

surrogate activities

"We use the term “surrogate activity” to designate an activity that is directed toward an artificial goal that people set up for themselves merely in order to have some goal to work toward, or let us say, merely for the sake of the 'fulfillment' that they get from pursuing the goal."

-Theodore Kaczynski

Surrogate activities are the activies that replace the real activities.

They can replace realness by overshadowing the real thing OR come in to existence after the realness has already left, to fill the gap the lost realness left.

In the second case, it can be helpful. When there's a gap in realness, we can only either repress that need, which causes it to explode in neurosis, or replace it with a surrogate activity. In that case, it's better than nothing.

We should be avoiding the first case at all costs. We're not, but we should.

example

let's take some examples to illustrate my point.

Work - our current definition of "work" is like, being employed and earning money. A woman who raises her own children and keeps her home but does not earn money "doesn't work." A primitive tribesman who spends his time chilling with his friends and devotes most of his energy to satisfying his biological needs "doesn't work." This is some fake and unfun bullshit. "Work" as we know it is a surrogate activity for real work. We hear old people say that young people "don't want to work anymore." Of course they don't. Who would? It sucks. "Get a job!" say the normies to the ones trying to have fun, trying to have real connection, trying to be real. "You need money to survive" no you don't. That's stupid. "Life is suffering" no it's not. A life comprised exclusively of surrogate activities is suffering. This is neither universal nor transhistorical. Just a couple of generations ago, no one said "oh fuck another Monday." The biological needs, emotional reactions, and spiritual needs we evolved over the past million years matched our lifestyles. Our lives were real, our activities were real, our suffering was real, and our work was real.

Status - our current definition of who has high status is basically just the rich and or famous, right? It has nothing to do with merit, honor, loyalty, honesty, strength, bravery, reliability, or any other real positive character qualities. This fakeness is older than the work fakeness - i guess it started when leadership becccame heritable? When the king's son became the next king instead of the guy who was strongest and smartest and who protected the rest of the crew the best? Is there even research on this? Someone should study when all of our different fake shit started and why. Anyway, trying to get rich or famous to satisfy our real need for status and respect is unfulfilling. Why? Because it's a surrogate activity. Nobody really respects the rich and famous. They suck.

application

so what do we do in a fake world where our only options are surrogate activities? we be radical. we reject convenience. we ignore the norm. we have fun!

Here are some exercises to get you back in touch with what is REAL:

Exercise 1: smell the smells

Stop wearing deodorant for a while. Your own smell gives you information about your health. Bad body odor means stress, disease, bacterial infection, anxiety, and other bad stuff. Good body odor means good health, sweat from exercise, peaceful interior, equilibrium. If you think your good body odor smells bad, you are blinded by your programming. If you are afraid of what others will say, your friends suck. Deodorant itself is not bad for you. Not recieving the information your body odor wants to give you is bad for you.
Stop perfuming your house permanently. The bad smells are important information. Recieve the information. Don't cover it with fake shit.

exercise 2: feel the feelings

What are your feelings right now? Decode them.

Anger is our natural response to not being able to control something we wish we could control. Either control the thing or accept you can't.

Anxiety is to keep us safe from future danger. What are you anxious about? Research and planning are the cure.

Trauma is to prevent us from reliving past danger. Learn the lesson and stay away from that danger.

Fun is our natural reward for doing biologically advantageous behavior. Do more of it.

Depression is our need for deep rest (to save calories in winter or famine). Get comfy and give in to it. You'll know you're done when you get bored.

Sadness is our natural response to biologically disadvantageous events. Remember that this, too, shall pass.

I will explain more of them another time if anyone is interested.
When you know what your emotions are and what they mean, you will be in touch with what is real and what is not. You will develop a sense for fakeness. You will notice you're living in the uncanny valley. Your emotions are logical. Logic is emotional. There is no separation between logic and emotion. The venn diagram is a perfect circle.

The more you can differentiate between real and fake, the better your life will be. PRACTICE IT AND HAVE MORE FUN!!

How to have fun when you feel like shit

We don't do toxic positivity around here

Feelin' shitty?

Is it your period? Are you hung over and embarrassed of your drunken behavior? Do you have a disease? Did you do a disasterous fail?

Then what use is fun?

First, stop thinking that fun is inherently light-hearted. Horror films are fun. Some people think running ultra-marathons is fun. Darkness is fun.

Get into it

Accept your shitty feeling. Stop trying to change it. Don't even think about "snapping out of it". Starting an conflict with yourself in this state just makes it worse. You feel like shit and it's fine.

Get into your shitty feeling. Cry. Complain. Bitch and moan. Journal. In fact, start a whole new journal just for this. A cheap one you can throw away later.

Go grocery shopping. Get food and supplies for the next few days.

Lock yourself in your house and rot. Get in jammies. Make moody lighting. Play video games. Watch garbage on TV. Ignore chores. Skip your classes. Call in sick to work. (this is called space-shipping)

That's it

Validating yourself feels amazing and makes it pass faster than if you try to fight it or change it. You'll soon get bored and have a great idea for a thing to do and it will be over.

Repressing your negative emotions, especially anger and sadness, causes cancer at the same rate as smoking a pack a day. Don't repress it. Get into it.

It's fun

Feels a little naughty to stop performing "being ok". Feels good to feel like shit.

And it's being wet.

Make your clothes wet. Make your hair wet.

Shoot yourself with a squirt gun.

Blast yourself with a water balloon.

Jump in the lake fully clothed.

Wash your clothes and put them on soaking wet.

Oh no it's unprofessional to be wet

Then just quit your job. Fuck it.

Is being all sweaty better? No, it stinks.

What doesn't work

Eating ice cream makes your body warm up to equilibriate

Fans only make a difference if you're wet

Air conditioners are pure shit. Fight me.

Drinking water doesn't cool you. WTF? Who isn't drinking water anyway?

Beer doesn't work. I don't think anyone said it would but it doesn't.

Just fuck it

Summer sucks and it's fun to hate summer.

Just be wet and who cares?

Fun Skill: Traveling

how to make traveling fun

First state the problem

There's plenty of hype around travel, but it doesn't live up to it.

Finding something good to eat in a new place is a chore.

you can see the sights on the internet. you don't need to spend the CO₂ to physcially get there.

finding a pet sitter sucks ass. someone has to go in your house when you're not there.

why did you even come here? you don't even speak the language here.

travel must have a purpose

going to a festival

visiting a friend

going to a conference

seeing something that's not online yet

experiencing something that's not available where you live

that's what makes travel fun. achieving the goal of the trip. travel just for the sake of travel is pointless.

don't overdo it

it also sucks to plan every minute of the trip with no chance to chill or find something unexpected.

it can't go too much in either direction.

or just stay home

at home everything is exactly as you like. your routines. your organization system.

is it fine to admit you don't like to travel? or are you a loser then?

why is it supposedly so cool? traveling sucks. consumerist garbage.

The weather is one of the only gods we haven't killed.

We are all still the weather's bitch.

Respect the weather or suffer. It's not about love it's about reverence.

Small Talk

is a mini worship session for the weather.

Don't talk shit about small talk. Learn how to say interesting things.

Compare weather apps with each other.

Reflect on how epic a certain weather event was.

Complaining is fine. This isn't JHWH we're talking about here.

Trade tips with one another.

There is no bad weather, just bad clothes

Buy an awesome rain jacket.

Rain pants even.

Rain boots, duh.

Stop thinking it's effete to carry an umbrella.

Wear wet clothing when it's hot.

Get awesome sunglasses.

HATS

Winter boots

Fur coats

Long underwear

These are our ritual objects for worshipping the weather.

Your life will be better when you think it's fun to ride bikes in a snow storm.

The Importance of FUN

Justifying this blog to myself

What mainstream culture tells us about fun

According to mainstream culture, fun is: frivolous, dangerous, childish, and dispensable. If you're having fun, you have "too much time on your hands" or "more money than you know what to do with". You're unserious. Why would a reasonable adult prioritze fun if it's viewed this way by others? It's BAD! NAUGHTY! IRRESPONSIBLE!

I disagree, and the data support my position.

What the sciences tell us about fun

Everyone’s heard of the classic rat studies (e.g., James Olds, Charles Schuster, 1950s–70s), where rats were kept in isolated, deprived conditions and given a lever to self-administer hard drugs. Many of them pressed it compulsively, sometimes to the point of neglecting food and sleep. Don't look it up, it's horrible.

Fewer people know about later work like Bruce K. Alexander’s “Rat Park,” where rats lived in a rich, social environment with friends, toys, and FUN. Given access to drugs, they used far less and often preferred non-drug options.

Fun is not just nice to have. It's protective:

Work by Stuart Brown argues that play is a basic biological need.

Barbara Fredrickson's "broaden-and-build" theory states that positive emotions literally expand your thinking and attention, helping you build social bonds, skills, and coping resources.

Clinical psychology studies show that scheduling enjoyable activities can lift mood before motivation returns (depression). Fun is the cure itself, not the reward after the cure is complete.

The Harvard Study of Adult Development consistenly find that fun is HEALTHY AS FUCK!!

LOOK IT UP IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME!!!! Use CORE to find articles.

How Easy>Hard sees fun

Here at the Easy>Hard headquarters, we believe that:

Fun should be prioritized very highly in life

Fun can be incorporated into almost any task or activity

We should be producing fun and not sucking fun

Negative emotions can also be fun (we reject toxic positivity)

You don't, necessarily, need money or things to have fun

Merely thinking about fun is fun

Fun is attractive

Fun is healthy

Fun is easy

Fun is IMPORTANT!

Things are better when they're worse

I love slop. Give me slop.

worse is better than better

when things are good and follow all the rules, they become nothing. if someone is sinless, then there is no point to them being alive.

we need chaos or else we're finished and can all go jump off cliffs. there's nothing left to be done.

do you think we would all just hang out in hot tubs, sipping Perrier and eating seedless grapes? no. we would go mad and have a purge, just for the spice.

we should really do it. we should make a universal basic income and legalize murder. i mean, what else are we doing? inventing new garbage? having wars? using AI to make Dreamcore shorts? lame. we already did that.

tape a banana to the wall

i fucking love this artwork where the guy duct taped a banana on a wall. it tickled my tummy when everyone got pissed at this piece of shit selling for $6.2 million. omg hehehehe i still love it. fabulous!

how is it possible for there to be a thing after postmodernism? maybe that's why people are so scared of AI. because we know that humans are finished with our work on Earth and we know what happens when something is finished...

it seems like AI doesn't even make any good slop anymore. not even the machines are dreaming anymore.

we've made everything orderly. and now we're telling our children that chopping your dick off is a normal thing and finishing our food before we've selected something to watch on Netflix.

ultimate everything

the world devoid of meaning gives us ultimate freedom. we can do anything because nothing matters.

forget making something new. no one can.

let's write the script for The Human Centepede 4.

the joke and the banana turn to mush and it's better than better

Unfun: Grass

touching it doesn't help

new post category

i'm starting a new post category called "unfun" for talking shit about things that block fun, fake fun, imposter fun, talking shit, etc.

talking shit is fun.

"do unto others..." yes, go to the Hate Mail page and click the link to write me an email about me directly to me. let it out. feels good.

grass sucks

or lawns, i guess. lawns suck.

spending effort and energy maintaining a useless, non-native plant is inherently stupid.

having lawns was invented by the rich to show off how much land they could waste.

now it's required of homeowners, with no alternative allowed.

the grasses we've bred to not be spikey to the foot now contain entophytes that are toxic to grazing animals. the animals removed and the output thrown away.

insane

touch grass

people have started saying "go touch grass" to chronically online people, implying they've lost touch with nature, biology, and reality.

but grass itself is also completely disconnected from those things.

we should say "go touch nettle" haha that's meaner and funnier. and more closely connected with reality. perfect for someone who fell for some rage bait.

did you and your childhood friends dare each other to touch nettle? #redbull

or at least "go touch tree bark." rough and good and real.

replacing soft/fake bullshit with more soft/fake bullshit is not the solution. it's not doing anything at all.

takeaway

so the whole chain is fakeness stacked on fakeness. pasture became decoration, decoration became pixels, and now the advice for getting real is to go stare at the middle link.

if you actually want to feel something real, go touch an electric fence. or punch yourself in the face.

The space between projects

Existential crisis-play

The last one is done

The homelab works. The website is live. The blog is being posted to, almost daily. It's fun and I like it. Am proud.

The goal was set, effort was exerted towards attaining the goal, and the goal was attained, all autonomously. Satisfaction was achieved.

But satisfaction can not last long, else we quickly die if dehydration.

Transition phase

Should I try to build an audience? Ew. Then why isn't it just a paper journal?

I rather enjoy my brain as a poorly-guarded private club. It tickles my tummy to think a stranger could find this and read it. Giggling into the void and it's giggling back at me.

Like a foreign god reading my mind. Judging me without having any power over me. Hi Nanshe! Did you cease to exist when you ceased to be worshiped?

I need to decide what my next project will be....

Ideas

Restoring cool old bycicles - I already own some that need to be fixed

Learning to code something cooler than a website - everything is already made, isn't it?

Read some biographies to get some ideas - people have done cool things and I can copy them

Continue writing THE BOOK - I have 46 pages so far plus a huge list of ideas - it's emotionally challenging to do

Pick up oil painting again?

Should I learn to spell or install a spell checker?

Join a board game club?

When I am bored, I start troublemaking

I am too old to be so rowdy.

The last time I finished an obsession and was searching for a new one, I wrote all about it in my journal. This website is the result.

TUNE IN NEXT TIME FOR A RETROSPECTIVE OF THAT PROCESS AND AN ATTEMPT TO DO IT AGAIN

Use your life all the way up!!
